Mission Overview
A New Home introduces you to the Malta Safe House, your primary operational base for the Mediterranean theater of operations in 007 First Light. This mission combines safe house familiarization with two distinct field exercises — a daytime flag capture operation and a nighttime infiltration variant — that test your ability to adapt tactics to environmental conditions. The mission runs approximately 18-22 minutes and establishes the safe house as a hub for equipment management, intelligence review, and mission planning throughout the mid-game campaign.
The Malta Safe House is a converted seaside villa located on the outskirts of Valletta, featuring multiple floors of operational space including an armory, communications center, medical bay, vehicle garage, and living quarters. Beyond its practical functions, the safe house serves as a narrative anchor — a place of relative safety where Bond can process events, receive briefings from Moneypenny via secure link, and prepare for increasingly dangerous missions ahead. The day/night cycle mechanics introduced here will appear in later missions with greater complexity.

Key Objectives
Mission objectives:
- Complete the safe house orientation tour — Visit all major rooms (armory, comms center, medical bay, garage, planning room) to unlock their functions. Each room provides specific services that become available between missions.
- Complete the daytime flag capture exercise — Infiltrate the training compound adjacent to the safe house during daylight hours and capture the target flag from the central building. Daytime conditions mean guards have longer sightlines but more predictable patrol patterns.
- Complete the nighttime flag capture exercise — Return to the same training compound at night to capture a second flag from a different location. Nighttime reduces visibility but provides more shadow cover and fewer active patrols.
- Review intelligence files in the planning room — Access the situation board to read dossiers on Phoenix operatives active in the Mediterranean region. This information directly informs upcoming mission targets.
Safe House Exploration
The safe house orientation tour is not merely decorative — each room you visit unlocks permanent functionality that persists throughout the campaign. The **Armory** allows weapon customization, ammunition resupply, and loadout management between missions. The **Communications Center** provides access to Moneypenny's briefing updates, intelligence reports, and optional side-mission requests. The **Medical Bay** offers health restoration, injury treatment (reducing penalty effects from previous missions), and stamina enhancement upgrades. The **Garage** stores vehicles acquired during missions and allows cosmetic customization. The **Planning Room** contains the main story progression interface and houses collectible displays.
Take time during your initial tour to examine every room thoroughly. Environmental details reveal backstory about previous occupants of this safe house, MI6 operational history in Malta, and hints about the Phoenix organization's local activities. The planning room's situation board is particularly important — it displays photographs, connection maps, and timeline data that piece together the conspiracy you are investigating. Reading all available intelligence files unlocks the "Informed Agent" perk which highlights mission-relevant dialogue options in future conversations.
Daytime Flag Capture Exercise
The daytime exercise takes place at a mock enemy compound approximately 500 meters from the safe house, used by MI6 for training purposes. Your objective is to infiltrate the compound, reach the central administrative building on the second floor, and retrieve a blue flag marker without being detected by the 8 training personnel simulating guard behavior. Daytime conditions present specific advantages and disadvantages compared to nighttime infiltration.
During daylight, guard sightlines extend significantly further — approximately 25 meters compared to 12 meters at night. However, daytime patrols follow rigid schedules with minimal deviation, making them highly predictable once observed. The compound's outdoor areas offer less shadow cover, forcing reliance on physical obstacles (walls, vehicles, structures) rather than darkness for concealment. Recommended approach: enter through the eastern maintenance gate during the 90-second shift change window when both gate guards are occupied with handover procedures, move along the northern wall using construction materials for cover, and ascend the fire escape on the admin building's east face which has no camera coverage.
The flag itself is located in a locked office on the second floor. Use the Q Lens hacking interface to bypass the electronic lock (basic encryption, should take 3-4 seconds). Once acquired, extraction follows the same route in reverse or uses an alternative exit through the western fence gap near the vehicle storage area. Total completion time under 5 minutes earns gold rating for this exercise.
Nighttime Flag Capture Exercise
The nighttime exercise returns you to the same compound after dusk, but with a different objective location and modified conditions. This time the flag is hidden in the basement storage room beneath the western warehouse building, and only 4 guards remain active (the others having ended their shifts). Nighttime dramatically changes the tactical landscape — visibility drops significantly, shadows provide natural concealment, but your own ability to spot threats is equally reduced.
The Q Lens becomes essential during nighttime operations. Instinct vision compensates for reduced visibility by highlighting enemies through walls, and the tagging system allows you to maintain awareness of guard positions even when they move into dark areas beyond your line-of-sight. However, using Instinct creates a faint glow visible to nearby guards if they are looking in your direction, so activate it only when behind solid cover or at significant distance from patrol routes.
The basement entrance is located behind stacked crates in the warehouse loading dock. The door is unlocked but creaks loudly when opened — time your entry when the nearest patrol (a roving guard who circles the warehouse exterior every 45 seconds) is at the farthest point of his route. Inside the basement, navigate past storage shelving to find the red flag in a footlocker against the north wall. Extraction can use the same basement entrance or an emergency exit grate in the floor that leads to a tunnel exiting outside the compound perimeter entirely.

Stealth Approach Tips
The contrast between day and night operations teaches fundamental lessons about environmental adaptation. During daylight, movement speed matters less than staying behind cover — guards who see you moving in the open will investigate regardless of how quickly you move. At night, speed becomes more valuable because darkness degrades visual acuity; a fast-moving figure in shadows is harder to track than a slow one. Adjust your playstyle accordingly based on current lighting conditions.
Both exercises share common stealth principles worth mastering here: crouch-walking generates half the noise of standing movement regardless of surface type; running on any surface within 15 meters of a guard guarantees detection; and environmental distractions (thrown objects, activated machinery) create investigation windows of 10-15 seconds during which nearby guards turn their backs to approach the noise source. Learn to chain these windows together for extended movement opportunities.

Combat Tips
If stealth fails during either exercise, combat is manageable but penalizes your score significantly. Training personnel use non-lethal simulation weapons that deal reduced damage but can still incapacitate you if overwhelmed. In daylight fights, use the abundant cover positions around the compound exterior. In nighttime engagements, the Q Lens tagging system helps track enemies who move into darkness where visual tracking becomes nearly impossible. Prioritize eliminating any guard who reaches an alarm panel — triggered alarms add 2 minutes to your completion time regardless of subsequent performance.

Collectibles Locations
This mission contains 6 collectibles distributed across the safe house and training compound:
Collectible locations:
- Intel Document #1 — Located in the safe house armory, inside the weapons locker on the back wall. Contains inventory logs showing what equipment previous agents checked out before going missing.
- Intel Document #2 — Found in the communications center, on Moneypenny's desk terminal. Intercepted Phoenix communications mentioning a meeting in Slovakia.
- Playing Card (Four of Diamonds) — Hidden in the planning room, tucked inside a book on the shelf. Part of the ongoing card collection.
- Playing Card (Four of Hearts) — Located in the daytime training compound, inside a supply crate near the eastern gate.
- Memento (Malta Photograph) — Found in the safe house living quarters, in a frame on the mantelpiece. Shows the villa before MI6 acquisition.
- Postcard — Hidden in the nighttime training compound basement, attached to the underside of the table holding the flag.
Challenge Tips
This mission features 12 challenges covering safe house exploration and both field exercises:
Available challenges:
- Home Comfort — Explore every room in the safe house and interact with all interactive objects
