Difficulty Overview
007 First Light offers multiple difficulty settings affecting enemy awareness, damage dealt and received, and availability of assistance systems. Understanding difficulty impacts enables informed selection matching player skill levels.
Difficulty Levels
Agent (Story Mode)
Agent difficulty emphasizes narrative experience over challenge. Enemies have reduced awareness and deal less damage. Assistance systems provide additional guidance. This setting suits players prioritizing story over mastery.
007 (Normal)
The default experience balancing challenge and accessibility. Standard enemy awareness and damage create meaningful consequences without frustrating difficulty spikes. Recommended for most players.
00 Agent (Hard)
Increased enemy awareness and damage demand precise execution and strategic planning. Fewer assistance features require self-reliance. This setting rewards accumulated skill and provides genuine challenge.
00 (Maximum)
Maximum difficulty creates demanding scenarios requiring mastery across all four pillars. Enemies respond quickly and deal significant damage. This setting provides the ultimate challenge for dedicated agents.
Purist Mode
Purist mode removes all interface assistance—mini-maps, objective markers, and threat indicators disappear. Players must rely entirely on environmental observation and accumulated skill for navigation and awareness.
Purist Mode Effects:
- No mini-map or navigation assistance
- No automatic objective markers
- No threat indicators or detection warnings
- Reduced instinct effectiveness
- Manual objective tracking required
Purist mode combines with any difficulty setting, creating extreme challenges for players seeking maximum immersion and difficulty. The "White Flag" achievement requires Purist mode pacifist completion, one of the game's most demanding achievements.
Difficulty Effects
What Changes:
- Enemy awareness range and reaction speed

- Damage dealt by Bond to enemies
- Availability of aim assistance
- Detection grace periods
- Health regeneration rates
Start with Agent or 007 difficulty for first playthroughs. Attempting maximum difficulty without foundation knowledge leads to frustration rather than satisfaction.
Changing Difficulty
Difficulty can be adjusted mid-game through pause menu options. This enables approach adjustment if missions prove too easy or too difficult without requiring complete restart.
