Startup Crashes — The Most Common Issue

The most frequently reported PC issue is the game crashing before reaching the title screen. In approximately 70% of reported cases, the cause is the game defaulting to the integrated GPU instead of your dedicated graphics card.

Fix #1: Force High Performance GPU Mode (70% success rate)

Open Windows Graphics Settings, browse to the 007FirstLight.exe file, and set it to High Performance mode. This forces the dedicated GPU to render the game instead of the integrated graphics chip.

Fix #2: Disable Integrated GPU (15% of remaining cases)

If Fix #1 does not resolve the crash, open Device Manager, find your integrated graphics adapter, and disable it. This is more aggressive but resolves crashes in cases where the system keeps defaulting to the iGPU.

Fix #3: Verify Game Files (10% of cases)

In Steam, right-click 007 First Light → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files. Corrupted or missing files from installation can cause crashes. This is faster than a full reinstall.

Fix #4: Run as Administrator

Right-click the game executable or Steam launch option and select "Run as Administrator." This resolves permission issues that can block the game from accessing necessary system resources.

Fix #5: Update GPU Drivers

NVIDIA users should grab the latest driver from the official NVIDIA driver page or use the NVIDIA App. AMD users should use AMD's official driver page. Intel users can check updates with Intel Driver & Support Assistant.

Stuttering and FPS Drops

Stuttering is not always the same as low FPS. Low FPS means the game is consistently slow. Stutter means it hitches intermittently even when average frame rate looks acceptable.

Stutter fixes:

  • Turn off V-Sync in game settings
  • Set graphics preset to Performance mode
  • Disable hardware ray tracing if enabled (arrives in Summer 2026)
  • Move the game to an SSD if currently on a HDD
  • Clear shader cache in AppData/local/007FirstLight

Server Disconnect During Autosave Error

Several fixes have proven effective for the autosave/server disconnect issue, which was particularly common during launch week when server traffic was extremely high.

Autosave disconnect fixes (in effectiveness order):

  • Switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet — most impactful fix
  • Disable Windows Controlled Folder Access
  • Change DNS servers to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)
  • Verify Steam game files
  • Clear shader cache
  • Disable overlay software (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA Experience)

The autosave error occurs because 007 First Light relies on constant online validation. Until IO Interactive releases a major stability patch, these workarounds provide the most reliable protection for your save progression.

Denuvo on Linux / macOS

007 First Light includes Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM. This causes issues on Linux and macOS when running through compatibility layers like Proton or CrossOver. The game is not officially supported on these platforms.

Black Screen on Launch

Black screen fixes:

  • Try the display on a different monitor
  • Check if the game opened on the wrong monitor in display settings
  • Reset in-game display configuration to default
  • Verify graphics drivers are current
