Gadget System Overview
Bond relies heavily on gadgets throughout 007 First Light. All gadgets require energy from two resource types: Electrical batteries or Chemicals. You must mix different gadget types in your loadout to avoid running dry. Players start with 2 active gadget slots; a third slot unlocks later through story progression.
Permanently Equipped Gadgets (Cannot Be Removed)
Q-Lens:
- Reveals enemies, hackable devices, and points of interest through walls
- Hold activation button to view the room in wireframe
- Highlights collectibles in yellow when active
- Unlock: Mission 2 — A New Home
Q-Watch:
- Hacks electronic systems and bypasses security
- Runs on battery power
- Three modes: Scanning (Radar), Identification (Profiling), Threat Analytics (Alarm Monitor)
- Unlock: Mission 2 — A New Home
All Unlockable Gadgets
Dart Phone — Chemical resource, Mission 2:
- Fires toxin darts that force enemies to abandon their positions
- Guards who normally refuse to move suddenly leave their posts
- Creates safer takedown routes and easier passage
Smoke Pod — Chemical resource, Mission 3:
- Deploys portable smoke for stealth movement
- Covers your mistakes and dense patrol groups
- 8-10 seconds of zero-visibility for non-lethal ghosting
Shockwave Camera — Resource unconfirmed, Mission 3:
- Stuns enemies and damages armor
- Best used for combat or breaking groups rather than pure stealth
- Can be too loud for pure stealth runs
Laser Strap — Electric resource, Mission 4:
- Temporarily blinds enemies and cuts locks
- Opens locked areas inaccessible by other means
- Accesses locked containers and paths required for certain collectibles
- ESSENTIAL for 100% collectible completion — always equip from Chapter 9 onward
Flash Mine — Chemical resource, Mission 4:
- Releases a flash effect that stuns opponents
- Useful for trapping chokepoints or covering retreats
- Less flexible for pure stealth than the Smoke Pod
Missile Pen — Electric resource, Mission 6:
- Launches explosive projectiles
- Most aggressive, tech-based launcher gadget
- Consumes significant battery resources
- Essential for combat-heavy mission sections
Best Stealth Loadout
Recommended stealth build: Q-Watch + Dart Phone + Smoke Pod + Laser Strap
- Dart Phone: force stationary guards away from important positions
- Smoke Pod: cover mistakes and dense patrol groups
- Laser Strap: open locked paths and create additional distractions
- Stealth flow: Scan with Q-Lens → Distract with Q-Watch → Move guards with Dart Phone → Escape using Smoke Pod
Best Combat Loadout
Recommended combat build: Shockwave Camera + Missile Pen + Flash Mine
- Shockwave Camera: stun enemies and damage armored targets
- Flash Mine: create temporary crowd control
- Missile Pen: heavy explosive damage for clustered enemies
Q-Watch Three Modes Explained
Scanning (Radar):
- X-ray vision within 15-meter radius
- Reveals NPC viewing vectors through walls and ceilings
- Main battery consumer — activate only to fix patrol routes, then deactivate immediately
Identification (Profiling):
- Displays tags when pointing at targets: Vulnerable, Armed, Bystander
- "Observer" tag means social stealth will not work — bypass or eliminate silently
Threat Analytics:
- Overall combat readiness indicator for the sector
- If the scale grows, your mistakes are accumulating
- Provides a window to retreat before a general alarm is raised
Resource Management
Batteries recharge by holding the interact prompt on powered electrical devices marked with a blue battery icon (visible while Q-Lens is active). Chemicals refill by collecting pickups scattered throughout each level. Always top up both resources before entering high-threat areas.
Starting a mission with the wrong loadout is not a permanent mistake. Use the quick restart option to change your gadget selection. IO Interactive built this into the game deliberately — use it.
