The Three Core Stealth Actions
007 First Light's stealth system revolves around three primary actions: Bluff, Lure, and Takedown. Understanding when to use each — and their respective costs — is the difference between elegant infiltration and noisy chaos.
Bluff — Use Sparingly
Bluffing allows Bond to talk his way past hostile NPCs, guards, and enemies by feigning authority, producing false credentials, or invoking a cover story. It is the most Instinct-expensive action and the least reliable.
When to bluff:
- In trespassing zones where Bond lacks legitimate access
- Against non-guard NPCs (civilians, staff) who can be persuaded
- When you lack the right disguise but have gathered enough intel about the area
- Bluffs consume significant Instinct — save this resource for emergencies
When NOT to bluff:
- Against alert guards who have already noticed you
- During active combat or high-alert states
- When Instinct is below 50% — failure rate increases significantly
- On elite enemies or story-critical encounters
Bluff success often depends on having gathered enough environment intel first. Eavesdrop on conversations, read documents, and hack terminals to improve your bluff odds in specific areas.
Lure — Environmental Manipulation
Luring uses audio or visual cues to draw enemies away from their posts. Bond calls out or throws objects to redirect enemy attention, creating safe windows for movement or takedowns.
How to lure:
- Look at the enemy you want to lure and press the bound button (Square on PS5, X on Xbox)
- Bond will call out or throw a small distraction
- Guards investigate the sound/source for several seconds
- Use this window to reposition, flank, or execute a silent takedown
Lure best practices:
- Best used in stealth sequences — rarely valuable in open combat
- Chain lures with takedowns: Lure guard A away → takedown guard B → hide guard B → takedown guard A
- Multiple lures in quick succession can clear entire patrol routes
- Combine with Q-Lens environmental scanning to identify throwable objects
Takedown — Your Primary Tool
Takedowns are the most reliable and Instinct-efficient stealth action. Bond silently eliminates unaware enemies using context-sensitive animations.
Standard takedown conditions:
- Enemy must be unaware (not in alert or combat state)
- You must be in range (behind or beside the target)
- Most effective from behind — triggers chokehold animation
- Side takedowns produce neck-snap animations
- Above takedowns (from ledges) pull enemies down
Cover Takedown:
- Execute when behind low cover and an enemy walks close enough
- Wait for the on-screen prompt to appear
- Bond lunges from cover and eliminates the target instantly
- Most efficient takedown type — very low Instinct cost and safe positioning
Finisher Takedown (Combat/Hand-to-Hand):
- Available during License to Kill sections or when cover is blown
- Engage enemies in hand-to-hand combat until they stagger
- When the prompt appears, execute the finisher takedown
- Context-sensitive: Bond uses the environment and available objects
Recommended Stealth Combo
Optimal stealth sequence:
- 1. Scan area with Instinct to identify patrol routes and gaps
- 2. Use Q-Lens to highlight throwable objects and interactive elements
- 3. Lure the nearest guard away from their partner
- 4. Execute silent takedown on the isolated guard — hide the body
- 5. Move to cover position near the remaining guard
- 6. Wait for the prompt and execute Cover Takedown
- 7. Move to the next patrol zone and repeat
This combo uses minimal Instinct and creates zero noise. Master it and you can complete most chapters without ever entering direct combat.
