What Is Instinct?

Instinct is 007 First Light's stealth currency. It powers the two most powerful social stealth actions: Bluffing and Luring. Instinct also fills a portion of the Focus Mode meter during combat. Without Instinct, you cannot bluff past guards or lure enemies into takedown positions. Managing this meter is critical to stealth success.

How to Earn Instinct

Instinct refills from:

  • Performing silent takedowns on enemies
  • Eliminating enemies in combat
  • Eavesdropping on NPC conversations
  • Collecting certain intel items
  • Completing story objectives

How to Spend Instinct

Instinct is consumed by:

  • Bluffing — convincing guards to let you pass when spotted (significant Instinct cost)
  • Luring — calling out to guards to draw them to your position (moderate Instinct cost)
  • Focus Mode — slowing time during combat (small continuous drain)

Optimal Instinct Strategy

The key mistake beginners make is spending Instinct too freely. Never attempt to bluff without at least 50% Instinct remaining — if the bluff fails, you need enough to recover. Always prioritize eavesdropping to refill before high-stakes sections. In larger encounters, perform silent takedowns on isolated guards to refill Instinct mid-mission.

💡Agent Intel

If you enter a mission with empty Instinct, find a quiet corner and eavesdrop on two or three NPC conversations before engaging. This gives you a full meter to work with.
